Most Popular Questions

  • How long is the program?
Our program is 4 weeks long. We run a full time schedule, from Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Your commitment is essential, as is our commitment to you!
  • I'm 18 years old, can I get my CDL?
Yes. However, CDL holders under the age of 21 are restricted from driving outside of the state of their licensed domicile. Once you turn 21, you would have to update your CDL to remove the age restriction from your license.
  • Do I need a high school diploma or G.E.D. to get my CDL?
We are an accredited institution through the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, therefore the prerequisite to have your high school diploma or G.E.D. is required. If you do not have either, give us a call, we can help you with that!
  • What documentation will I need to bring?
You will need your driver's license, a D.O.T. Certified Physical Examination and Medical Certification, your Social Security Card, Official State Issued Birth Certificate (Not the hospital issued certificate), two (2) proofs of domicile (Car Registration and Utility Bill in your name, authenticated by the utility company), and your high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Do you offer financing?
The academy directly does not offer direct financing, although we do offer discounts to cash paying students. There are many programs available that may sponsor your tuition, such as through the military or other community or county employment programs. Need help? Give us a call and we can direct you to a option that would suit your situation.
  • Can you get a CDL if you are a convicted felon?
The short answer is YES. The answer to this question will largely depend on where you live. Many states allow felons to obtain their CDL permit. However, it will depend largely on what the felony you committed included. The answer of what felonies will qualify versus disqualify you from getting your CDL will also vary by state. In most cases, any felony involving trafficking, murder, or other capital crimes will prevent you from obtaining a CDL. The bigger question is, if you do have a felony, and you obtain your CDL, what companies will hire you?
  • If I have a felony, and I am able to obtain my CDL, can I get employment?
The short answer is YES. There are many companies that will in fact hire you, even with a felony, based on 1) the nature of the felony, and 2) if there is an active, open case. The FMCSA requires employers to verify the last 10 years of employment and criminal background. So, if your felony is older than 10 years, it's a good chance a felony would not show up on your background check. However, never take a risk. Be honest with your employer/recruiter. Let them know, chances are, you will be just fine, given the industry. However, having any felony, regardless of how old it is, will prevent you from crossing the Canadian and possibly Mexican borders, without proper authorization from those countries.
  • Can I get a CDL if I have diabetes?
Yes. Even if you are insulin dependent. However, your DOT physical card may typically be restricted wherein you will not be able to get a 2 year physical, and you must have certain documentation from your PCP, or primary care physician, certifying your qualifications to operate a commercial motor vehicle.
